You know, I think I jinxed myself. I’ve always bragged about what a great sleeper Seth was and now that’s come back to bite me in the ass.
This kid won’t sleep. Will. Not. Sleep.
Yesterday he woke up at 9:30 in the morning, refused to nap all day, fell asleep in the middle of dinner in his high chair at 6:30 pm, woke up at 8:30 pm, and was up and here to party until 3:30 am.
So today we’re trying something new.
Earlier wake-up time (8:30), no screen time, more active play with mommy working on colors and shapes, and NO TABLET TIME during naps and bed. We got into the really bad habit of putting on an episode of Furrminster Hotel or Moana when he had too much energy at bedtime and now it’s turned into putting him to bed at 8:30 pm and he sits up and watches Netflix in his bed until the wee hours of the morning. I put on this video for him during nap-time instead and he was out in 5 minutes which was great.
I also threw away his bottles this afternoon which was a big step, as we’ve kind of caved every time we tried to switch to sippy cups. The next battle is going to be getting him to drink water because he acts like it’s poisonous and we have never had any degree of success at convincing him otherwise.
At current I’ll be trying this for his new bedtime schedule:
7pm Bath time/teeth brushing
I love the fella soooo much but we’re going to have a little trouble working on this together, because his idea of helping me get Seth ready for bed involves playing by tossing him in the air, tickling and blowing raspberries, turning him upside down, etc. These are not soothing, calming things, so they gots ta go.
Basically I have to get this sleep cycle thing back under control so everyone in the house (mostly me) retains sanity.
Did you do something awesome that made bedtime easier? Because I kind of super want to know what it is. Leave a comment, tell me your secrets!
